Random Journey Home

Well today was the first day of the London Underground Tube strike and my first proper commute into London after moving into Hammersmith with my boyfriend.

The darling boy suprised me and drove into central London to pick me up from work!

This is what I was greeted with ad I got into his car....

If you're wondering it's a taxidermy of a Raven!!

This weirdness beats Southwest Trains by a long shot!!!

'fascinators'

If I had the power I would ban 'fascinators' from life.

I have never understood the 'fascination' in these feather embellished headbands. What ever happened to a grand hat or lovely broach?

Why do people think that buy wearing a 'fascinator' they instantly become upper class! This certainly is not the case when combined with plastic beakers and warm rosé while sitting on a packed train at 12:30 on a Saturday!

I understand hats aren't everyones cup of tea and a 'fascinator' is an easy way to jazz up a look for an event or function, but please, rethink the options! Be different, invest in fabulous accessories and leave the feathers on the birds!

Helmet in more ways than one!

Ok, today I got a later train into London, half an hour later to be precise and the optimist in me thought that perhaps you'd find a more 'normal' commuter. Oh how wrong I was...

This man has been wearing this for over an hour!! My question is why! He clearly IS a helmet!

My boyfriend's secret obsession...

Right, so my boyfriend has asked me to move in with him, into his 2 bedroom apartment in Hammersmith.

Naturally, I said yes, it'll be just wonderful living closer to work, oh and lovely spending more time together blah blah.

So, as a beauty and fashion addict I've had to asses what I can bring with me and what will have to stay at home. Beauty first, I walk into his bathroom to see where I can keep my ablutions. This is the first time I've ever really paid attention to his own products and was astounded to be greeted with this...

This isn't normal?

Random Train Activities

Last train home from Richmond a random Friday night not too long ago and a trio of Russians come and sit next to me.

Even in my less than coherent state I thought this was unusual for 23:30 on a Friday!

Thoughts??

Fake handbag's

Now I'm not a snob, a cheap handbag is was it is and I have more than my fair share if them. My only bug it when people buy cheap imitation handbags.

Unfortunately the image isn't too clear but I can tell you, this one takes the biscuit!

Sitting on the train at the Staines stop this beauty crops up...

D&G logo and back-to-front Nike ticks on the zips! As someone who is involved in the fashion industry I know for a fact these two super brands haven't collaborated to produce this fashion faux pas!

Calling for a national ban on 'pop socks'

WTF?! Pop socks are wrong at the best of times!

Keep campaigning people!

I love my M&S shoes

I've always been a great supporter of good Marks and Spencer, even through their rough patch a few years ago when the company seemed to have lost its way. I stood firm and knew they would pull through!

Over the past few seasons M&S and continued to up the stakes in their footwear department (see latest ad campaigns) I bring to you my new toe squeezers!

Apologies for the crude photography!

SouthWest Trains

I've been commuting into London for the past 3 years, using SouthWest Trains. It's the only line into London from Reading and stations on the line. Running every half an hour and slightly more frequently at peak times. This means it's the multi-stop cattle train for those living in the Home Counties. Many passengers are business men and women who have atleast a 3 hours daily journey to and from work. Many of these poor people have stressful jobs. Unfortunately SouthWest Train services can be a little unreliable at times, which can cause passengers to be a little stresses and anxious!

I found a perfect example of what I believe is a 'classic case' of a SouthWest Train user.

I have to admit, I'm also guilty of partaking in drinking on public transport. Not as a result of a bad day at work, thankfully!

Stylist Magazine

If you're lucky enough the live in one of Britain's major cities such as London, Manchester, Leeds or Birmingham (to name a few) then you should have come across this lovely, high fashion lifestyle magazine.

Stylist is Britain's premium women's weekly brought to you by those clever dudes who also produce Shortlist.

I love Stylist! It is the thinking girls free weekly, full of fashion, beauty, travel, celebrity interviews and topical articles.

Their regular pages include The Style List, which is a round up of cool and interesting things the Stylist team deems worthy of our attention. This week featured the ever so cool and chic silver porcelain milk jug from Conran. Now I don't have milk in the house long enough to justify spending £15.50 on a milk jug, but if I were to have a tea party, this would take centre stage!

Another regular page in Stylist is by Dawn Porter. Dawn has had a number of hit TV programmes and is now giving Stylist readers an insight into the things that occur in her world. She is witty, funny and normal. I say normal in the sense that's she's a little odd like the rest of us. Her tweets are rather entertaining too!

So if you fancy reading this brilliant little rag then you can view it online, so you don't have to fight for it at tube and train stations! It's also available from French Connection stores.

Happy reading!

Life is hard sometimes!

On the Piccadilly line this morning I came across this poor chap who, I'm guessing, had a rather rough night. En route to work is often a great time to apply the lipstick or second coat of mascara (depending on the steadiness of ones hand) but surely it's not that difficult to tie a Windsor knot? Well perhaps it is if you are still intoxicated from the indulgences of the night before.

Red Nails

As a girl I used to bite my nails until they bled, so now I'm incredibley picky about how my nails look! I dare not leave the house without colour on my nails, I love classic reds and stumbled across this great red from Mavala called London. It's like a mini pot of rose petals! The colour is so intense, the name London probably comes from red London buses or post boxes.

Two coats of London and I'm ready for the day. This colour goes perfectly with any outfit, be it navy, black, brown or grey.

For £3.95 you get the most out of this little pot, there is no waste here, unlike the larger bottles of polish on the market.

To keep my nail colour steadfast all week I use Seche Vite.

Seche Vite does exactly what is says on the bottle 'dry fast top coat'. It dries within a minute, which allows you to get ready for the day without having to sit and wait for your nails to dry. When I wear Seche Vite I only need to manicure my nails once a week. The chip-proof formula makes it an ideal choice for those who are time poor.

Seche Vite leaves nails with a high gloss shine that is worthy of the red carpet. It's my personal manicure must-have and at £8.95, is worth every single penny.

Inspiration for my Blog

Now for a post which is one of the main reasons I started this post.

I travel from Berkshire into London everyday which means I see a great number of people, all just minding their own business and going about their daily business.

Unfortunately sometimes a person catches my eye for one reason or another and I can help but feel compelled to take a photo and share it with the world.

The reason for my post isn’t to be bitchy or nasty but as an appreciation of the oddness that surrounds us everyday.

I see myself as a amateur philanthropist who finds people fascinating, but sometimes the things I see are just plain wrong!

My first find was this gentleman on the Bakerloo line one day on my way home from work!

If someone is able to explain what, why and generally educate me on what this is all about I appreciate it! Otherwise I'l'l continue to be amused.

Introduction

Hello Blog World!

I'm a blogging virgin and am rather excited about my first post!

I set up this online diary to generally document the random and weird things that I see during my commute to and from London for work. However, yesterday was England’s first match of the World Cup. As an English American I was a little torn on whom the cheer for. I decided to stick to hedge my bets and stick with England.

My friend and I went to watch the match while drinking cocktails, which were delicious. Brilliant glasses!

I must say the atmosphere was electric when the game started and it instilled a real feeling of how much people love this country and have every bit of faith we can do anything! 4 minutes in and this biggest roar went up and Gerrard scores! Brilliant times! Pity about England’s goal blunder later in the game.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not a football fan so to say, but national games are infectious!

Good luck to the boys next week!
